What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is the most common form of eyelid surgery. It is a safe and effective method for removing excess fat, muscle, and skin from both the upper and lower eyelids.
We routinely perform this procedure. And, it can be combined with other treatments such as a brow lift or Silhouette Facelift™.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Droopy eyelids can make you look older and can also impair vision. In upper eyelid surgery, the physician marks the individual lines and creases of the lids keeping the scars as invisible as possible. The incision is made allowing excess fat, muscle, and loose skin to be removed. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of the suture line.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Puffiness of the lower eyelids and excess skin is very disturbing to patients. In lower eyelid surgery, the physician makes the incision along the lash line and smile creases of the lower lid. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are trimmed before the incision is closed. Fine sutures are used to close the incision minimizing the visibility of the suture line.
Laser Eyelid Surgery
Dr. Shapiro will evaluate your lower eyelids for fullness and excess skin. If you have a minimal amount of skin laxity, and/or a small amount of fullness, Laser Blepharoplasty might be the solution for you.
A small 1mm opening is made and a laser fiber is inserted to melt the fat and tighten the skin. No stitches are required and the recovery is extremely rapid, with little or no downtime.
Dr. Shapiro has trained several physicians on this revolutionary procedure. This procedure is not approved for upper eyelids.
About Brow Lift
There are different options for a brow lift procedure. This can be done as a stand alone procedure, or along with a blepharoplasty.
The most popular choice in our Langhorne treatment center is the Silhouette Brow Lift, which was pioneered and developed by our own facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Aaron Shapiro.
Using the revolutionary Silhouette Sutures, Dr. Shapiro can gently reposition the skin along the forehead and eyebrows to restore a tighter, younger looking appearance.
