Facelift An Overview

Aging of the face is inevitable. As the years go by, the skin begins to loosen on the face and neck. Crow’s Feet appear at the corners of the eyes. The jaw line softens into jowls. Heredity, personal habits, the pull of gravity and sun exposure contributes to the aging of the face.

We Offer Several Facelift Options

The most commonly requested facelift is a surgical facelift. These procedures are performed by Dr. Aaron Shapiro, a board certified facial plastic surgeon. We also offer:
Silhouette™ Facelift – Nonsurgical procedure using Silhouette™ Sutures
Combination Facelift – Surgical facelift with Silhouette™ Lift
Viora Reaction – Nonsurgical skin tightening procedure

About the Facelift Procedure

Facelift surgery is performed in an outpatient, private cosmetic surgery center under light general anesthesia.

Dr. Shapiro will make an incision around the ear and below the chin. The skin will be gently raised to reposition and tighten the underlying muscle and connective tissue. In some cases, liposuction may be used in combination with the facelift to remove excess fat and thin the skin to perform a natural contour and lift.

While we can’t stop the aging process completely, we can slow it down. A facelift will last 10 years or more.* You can increase the longevity of the facelift and maintain the youthful effects by having a healthy skin routine that includes sunscreen and professional skin care products.

Facelift FAQs

What types of facelifts are performed at The Center For SmartLipo?

We offer several different types or techniques for facelifts. A traditional facelift is used for patients who need a dramatic improvement in the tightness of skin. Other patients may be candidates for a Silhouette Lift facelift, a minimally invasive technique for patients with early signs of aging. Dr. Shapiro also performs a combination facelift to achieve customized results for patients.

What incisions are required in order to perform a facelift?

Dr. Shapiro is a highly skilled plastic surgeon. Any incisions he makes are made so that they can be hidden as completely as possible.

What is the recovery period like after a facelift?

We recommend that facelift patients take one week of rest following surgery to allow for proper healing and recovery. You may experience mild to moderate swelling and bruising in the lower face and neck in the first 5 – 7 days.* A mild prescription pain medication will be prescribed to alleviate any pain or discomfort.

What is a “lunchtime” facelift?

At The Center For SmartLipo & Plastic Surgery, we offer a “lunchtime” facelift technique called Silhouette Lift. This type of facelift is minimally invasive and performed in less than one hour. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and patients can resume normal activity immediately following the procedure.

What are the risks or complications associated with a facelift?

No surgical procedure is without risk. The risks associated with a facelift are very rare and may include bleeding, hematoma, infection, skin breakdown (especially in smokers), mild loss of sensation, and the possibility of a repeat operation. Dr. Shapiro takes great care to minimize these risks throughout your surgery and during your time of healing. He will go through these in detail at the time of your consultation.
