Reverse Aging With a Chemical Peel

After spending the summer months outside, the sun does some damage to your skin. A chemical peel can help reverse the sun damage and signs of aging on your face. The team at the Center for SmartLipo and Plastic Surgery discusses the benefits of their chemical peels in Philadelphia.philadelphia, pennsylvania chemical peels

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels utilize a chemical solution that’s applied to the skin of your face. It helps to get rid of the top layers of your skin that are damaged, giving you a smoother, even complexion. Whether alone or alongside other cosmetic procedures, a chemical peel can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scarring, or discoloration of the skin.

The Levels of Chemical Peels

There are three levels of chemical peels: light, medium, and deep. A light chemical peel is the most superficial. It removes the very top layer of skin, also called the epidermis. This can treat acne, an uneven skin tone, and fine lines and wrinkles. Light peels can be done around once a month to help with these conditions.

A medium chemical peel removes skin cells from both the epidermis and some from the layer below, called the dermis. In addition to treating the issues a light peel can, it can also help with deeper wrinkles and acne scars on the face. While this doesn’t require getting them frequently like the light peels, you may want to repeat the medium peel to get the results you want.

Lastly, a deep chemical peel is one that takes on the deeper layers of the skin. Repeat procedures aren’t needed to get the full impact you desire. Your doctor may recommend you get a deep chemical peel for deeper wrinkles and scars or and precancerous growths.
