Avoid Sunlight, Sweating, Swimming, etc…
For the first few days following your chemical peel, you should avoid anything that may interfere with its effectiveness. It is important that you avoid direct sunlight for at least one week, always using a sunscreen that is above SPF 40 on your face to prevent sun damage. Patients who already have a sensitivity to the sun before their chemical peel should take extra precautions to prevent sun exposure following the procedure as they may be more at risk than others for extreme sensitivity. Other activities to avoid until the skin is healed include:
- Excercising
- Swimming
- Jacuzzis
- Saunas
- Steam Baths
- Other facial treatments
Do Not Peel The Skin
Approximately 24-48 hours following your procedure, you skin will begin to peel. It’s important to remember that you should not peel the skin off. Picking or pulling at the skin can interfere with the effectiveness of your treatment and leave behind scarring. Instead, apply a light moisturizer with sunscreen as often as needed to relieve any dryness or tightness. You may resume your normal extracurricular activities and skin care routines about 10 days after your chemical peel as long as your skin has stopped peeling.
Remember The Benefits
As your chemical peel is in the process of healing, remember all of the benefits you will experience once the process is complete. Chemical peels are great for unclogging your pores, stimulating collagen production, increasing cell turnover, improving your skin tone and texture, and deminishing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkless, and dark spots. Generally, a series of 3 to 6 peels approximately every 2 weeks is recommended.
