Fat Transfer What to Expect
Fat Transfer is non-invasive procedure that is performed in an office environment under local anesthesia. The Fat Transfer procedure involves two steps: liposuction to harvest fat, followed by the transfer procedure to the rejuvenate the desired area.
The first step for a Fat Transfer procedure is liposuction. The Center For SmartLipo & Plastic Surgery offers four advanced liposuction techniques to gently remove unwanted fat. It is important to remove the fat gently to ensure the highest rate of survival and best results for the patient.
Fat can be removed from practically any area of the body including the abdomen, thighs, or hips to be transferred to another area of the body such as the breast, face or hands. The amount of fat needed will depend on the area(s) to be treated as well as the desired results. The type of liposuction used will be selected by the physician based on your specific goals.
The fat that was removed during the liposuction procedure is prepared for the fat transfer procedure by being cleansed and purified. This concentration of fat will be injected into the area(s) that has been targeted for treatment.
A topical anesthetic may be used to numb the injection area. Depending on the treatment area(s), the fat transfer procedure is typically complete in less than one hour, and in some cases, in just a few minutes.
