The Center For SmartLipo & Plastic Surgery was one of the first cosmetic medical centers in the United States to offer the SmartLipo™ procedure. Dr. Goldfarb and Dr. Patel offer this advanced liposuction treatment for men and women in our Langhorne, PA office. Dr. Goldfarb continues to be a pioneer in the field of advanced liposuction techniques and trains physicians from around the world to perform SmartLipo™, as well as other cosmetic procedures.
Getting the body you want is relatively easy with SmartLipo. Whether you want to get back to your pre-pregnancy shape or get rid of stubborn bulges, that just won’t go away, the physicians of the Center For Smart Lipo & Plastic Surgery can help.
For the SmartLipo procedure, our doctor will make a small incision, about 1 to 2 mm incisions, in the area to be treated. A very small cannula (tube) containing a laser fiber is gently inserted into the skin. The cannula is then moved in a back and forth “fanning” motion that delivers laser energy directly to fat cells – causing them to burst as they come in contact with the laser fiber.
The resulting melted fat is then gently suctioned out of the body. The heat emitted from the laser immediately coagulates the underlying blood vessels – resulting in less bleeding, swelling, bruising, and faster recovery time for the patient. Surrounding tissues are also tightened as part of the thermal heating and coagulation process.

SmartLipo: What to Expect
SmartLipo™ revolutionized laser-assisted lipolysis. Originally pioneered in Europe, SmartLipo was the first laser-assisted liposuction treatment on the market. It received FDA approval in November 2006 and quickly became the leader in laser-assisted liposuction.
SmartLipo utilizes a unique laser that both liquefies fat cells and destroys them, while simultaneously tightening the skin for much smoother results than traditional liposuction.
Benefits of SmartLipo
One of the greatest benefits of SmartLipo compared to traditional liposuction is that the procedure is performed under local anesthesia while you are completely awake. Because SmartLipo is minimally invasive, it fits conveniently into most people’s schedules so they can be back to work within days of having the procedure.
- Minimal bruising and no stitches
- Little to no downtime
- Up to 70% improvement in skin tightening and appearance of cellulite and stretch marks*
- Great for the entire body including smaller areas of concentrated fat such as the abdomen, hips, back, legs, thighs, ankles, arms, neck, and face
- Results after a single treatment with continued improvement in the months following the procedure
How much fat will SmartLipo remove?
SmartLipo can remove over a gallon of fat (approximately 10 pounds) in a single session.* You can expect 50–80% of the fat that you can pinch in an area to be removed in one treatment leaving you with a slimmer, more youthful body contour.*
Does SmartLipo treat cellulite?
SmartLipo provides a unique advantage and may improve cellulite, which is often made worse by traditional liposuction methods. When passed underneath the skin the SmartLipo laser will stimulate collagen production for up to three months post-treatment. As collagen grows, the overlying skin will begin to tighten. Some patients experience as much as 50% skin tightening with use of the SmartLipo laser.* At the Center for SmartLipo & Plastic Surgery, we may recommend a combination of Accent cellulite reduction treatment and SmartLipo for patients wanting optimal results.
How many SmartLipo treatments will I need?
For most patients, only one treatment is required. The sessions last approximately one hour per treated area.
What if I have a larger area of accumulated fat, will SmartLipo help?
SmartLipo can safely be combined with VASER LipoSelection, Custom Acoustic Liposuction or Body-Jet Liposuction to get rid of large areas of accumulated fat. You will have the skin tightening effects of SmartLipo along with the larger desired volume reduction capable with our other technology.

Am I an ideal candidate for SmartLipo?
In general, SmartLipo is ideal for patients who are in good health and within 25 lbs. of their ideal weight. These patients often have one or more body areas of local fat deposits where diet or exercise has had little to no effect and are motivated to rid themselves of these fatty areas permanently.
With any cosmetic procedure, it is important to have realistic expectations. Our doctors will consult with you before the procedure to make sure SmartLipo is right for you and to give you an idea of what your individual results will be.
What should I expect post-treatment?
After the treatment you will need to wear a compression garment for approximately two weeks depending on the area being treated.* You should refrain from hot-tubs, ocean water, or bathtubs for 4 weeks post-treatment to avoid infection.
