Eyelid Surgery Langhorne, PA

The signs of facial aging usually start around the eyes. As you age, your skin loses its elasticity, causing the upper and lower eyelids to drop, the brows to drop, and the forehead to wrinkle. The appearance of droopy or puffy eyelids can lend a more aged and tired appearance. Wind and sun exposure can make signs of aging even worse.

Achieve a younger look by tightening the area around the eyelid. Dr. Shapiro performs eyelid surgery to remove or tighten sagging skin around the eyes, resulting in a smoother, more taunt appearance that takes years off your face and makes you look more rested. Eyelid surgery can remove excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the lower eyelids, or loose or sagging skin on the upper eyelid, which sometimes impairs vision. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can remove excess skin, erase fine lines, and remove puffiness. Blepharoplasty: what to expect

The blepharoplasty procedure is performed in the comfort of our office. You will receive a local anesthesia to keep you completely comfortable throughout the procedure. Your physician will create incisions along the natural folds of the eyelid so that they are barely noticeable once completely healed. Our surgeons are highly trained and experienced and will carefully remove excess skin and tissue for a natural look.

When necessary, laser skin therapy may also be used to smooth the appearance of the skin after the incisions are closed. The eyelids will be treated with a topical antibiotic ointment that you will continue to apply at home for 2 weeks. It is also recommended that you keep your head elevated when sleeping for the first couple of weeks to minimize swelling and allow the tissues to heal.

Eyelid Surgery FAQs

Am I a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

Most patients in good health and over the age of 30 are considered good candidates for eyelid surgery to reduce excess skin above the eyes. Our physicians will evaluate the condition of your eyes and discuss your medical history before recommending the procedure.

How long is the recovery after eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty can cause swelling and bruising around the eyes and it is recommended that you avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for up to 2 weeks after your procedure. For most patients there is minimal pain or discomfort after the first day and over the counter pain medications can be used as needed.

Does health insurance cover eyelid surgery?

As a cosmetic procedure, eyelid surgery is not covered by health insurance. We offer payment options to meet your needs and will discuss these with you during the initial consultation.

How long do the results of eyelid surgery last?

Typically, patients will enjoy the results of their procedure for several years or more, averaging around 7 years. This is dependent upon your age at the time of the surgery, overall health and skin condition, and your lifestyle habits. Common factors that cause the skin to wrinkle and sag cover time will continue to impact your eyelids. Avoiding sun exposure, good hygiene and skincare can support the longevity of your result.
