What are the early signs of hair loss?
The normal person or scalp loses about 100 hairs a day. Mild to moderate hair loss is also considered a normal part of the aging process. However, early hair loss and hair loss associated with genetic factors can affect how a person feels about their appearance. There are several common signs and noticeable changes that indicate your hair is thinning or permanent hair loss has begun.
- Changes in your hairline: is you notice changes in the hairline, sometimes more noticeable in pictures, it can indicate a developing concern. While the hairline can change slowly as we age, more dramatic changes or recession in younger people can be the sign of permanent hair loss or male or female pattern baldness.
- Significant or noticeable hair loss when brushing or showering: if you begin to notice more hair on your brush on your shower floor, you may be losing hair at an increasing rate.
- More visible scalp: is your scalp more noticeable in certain areas? Thinning hair will reveal more scalp, often in patches on top of the head or in the back of the head.
- More visible part: this is a sign of thinning hair in both men and women.
If you feel that your hair is becoming thinner or notice any of these signs we recommend scheduling a consultation to evaluate the condition of your scalp and hair. Dr. Patel will determine the underlying cause of your hair thinning or loss and work with you to create a treatment plan as needed.
