Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that uses gentle abrasion to remove the outer layer of skin and unclog pores. It is an effective treatment for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improving acne scars and skin discoloration.

What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, non-chemical procedure that gently exfoliates the upper layers of skin to improve tone, texture, and evenness. Our licensed aestheticians will evaluate your skin condition and recommend a treatment program that will yield the best results for your unique needs.
Results of a study published in “Dermatologic Surgery” found that the treatment can achieve significant improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe acne scars and coarse, hyperpigmented skin. Other procedures such as chemical peels, ice slush treatments, or laser resurfacing don’t see this improvement. The study also shows that microdermabrasion is more effective than both chemical peels and laser resurfacing for improving fine lines and wrinkles. More benefits of microdermabrasion include:
- “Lunch Hour” procedure. It takes little time to complete.
- The procedure encourages collagen production, which helps keep the skin looking youthful.
- It is effective for all skin types and colors.
Microdermabrasion Procedure: What to Expect
First, the patient will lie down on the treatment table or chair. Then, the dermatologist or aesthetician will apply a numbing cream to the skin before beginning treatment. The dermatologist or aesthetician will then use a hand piece that has diamond-tipped crystals on it to gently buff away dead cells from the top layer of skin. You will not feel pain while we gently exfoliate the surface of the skin. We may also apply topical creams or gels to reduce redness and swelling, depending on what type of microdermabrasion procedure we are performing.
This procedure only removes the outer layers of skin, so there is no downtime and a short recovery period. You will see a gradual improvement in the tone and firmness of the skin as new skin cells form and collagen production increases.
