What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is an automated handheld device that is used to rejuvenate skin by stimulating collagen production. Microneedling can be used to treat a number of skin conditions including:

  • Acne scarring and other scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Reduce the appearance of large pores
  • Minimize stretch marks
  • Tighten the skin, reduce wrinkles and fine lines

Microneedling can be used anywhere on the body. The most popular treatment area is the face, used to treat acne scars, pigmentation problems, and wrinkles. Microneedling can also be used on other parts of the body to treat stretch marks, burn wounds, and surgical scars.

Microneedling: What to Expect

Microneedling is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that is performed in our Langhorne cosmetic treatment center. The Microneedling system uses tiny needles that vertically pierce the skin. The depth of treatment can be adjusted to meet the needs and goals of the patient.

Using the Selphyl® System, our physicians can produce platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) from the patient’s own blood. Diane will drip drop the Selphyl serum into the channels in the skin created by Microneedling.

The results are fantastic! As the skin heals from the Microneedling treatment combined with PRFM, the body rebuilds stronger and better with increased volume and improved skin texture.

Three-Phase Method

Microneedling & Selphyl Treatment has a three-phase method for success:

Phase 1: Stimulation

The first phase is the physical treatment. Microneedling is applied to the skin to cause injury to the desired area. Selphyl is added to the treatment area to help improve growth factors and promote collagen production and epidermal growth.

Phase 2: Healing

After treatment, the skin begins to heal itself, producing collagen, elastin, and healthy new skin cells.

Phase 3: Skin Tightening

The final phase is skin tightening. As the skin is rejuvenated, it appears tighter and smoother, eliminating fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture.

Microneedling FAQs

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments needed varies based on the skin condition and aesthetic goals of the individual. Most patients will see a noticeable improvement with just one session, however, multiple sessions will produce the best results. Microneedling treatments will be spaced several weeks apart to promote optimal healing and cosmetic outcomes.

Is Microneedling painful?

Dermapen is a relatively comfortable treatment. Pain associated with Microneedling varies based on the individual’s tolerance as well as the depth of treatment. We may use a numbing cream to reduce pain during and immediately after the procedure.

How long do the results of Microneedling and Selphyl last?

For the treatment of acne scarring and stretch marks, Microneedling and Selphyl combined therapy will deliver permanent results. For fine lines and wrinkles, most patients see results that last up to 2 years or longer.*
